Marsupials are a type of mammal known for carrying their babies (called joeys) in a pouch after birth. They are born very small and undeveloped and crawl into their mother's pouch to drink milk and continue growing until they are big enough to live on their own. Well-known marsupials include kangaroos, koalas, and opossums, and most species live in Australia, but some can be found in the Americas.

Monotremes are the only group of mammals that lay eggs rather than bearing live young. There are 5 living monotreme species: the platypus and four species of echidna. Female monotremes are like other mammals in that they nurse their young with milk. Monotremes are native to Australia and New Guinea.
